Law firm website design

A law firm's website has to do two things at once: meet the regulator's transparency rules, and persuade an anxious member of the public or a busy business owner that you are the firm to call. Done well, the first helps the second, because clear prices and process are exactly what people want to see.

Short answer

An SRA-regulated firm's website must show its SRA number and digital badge, and publish price and service information for certain services, such as residential conveyancing, uncontested probate and debt recovery up to £100,000. We build law firm sites with those pages in place for £949 setup and £59 a month (Grow) for most firms, or £1,950 and £129 (Scale) for several offices or a large team.

SRA rules for law firm websites

The SRA's rules require regulated firms that publish that they offer certain services to publish price and service information for them. The current list is:

  • For individuals: residential conveyancing, probate (uncontested, with all assets in the UK), motoring offences (summary only), and employment tribunal claims for unfair or wrongful dismissal.
  • For businesses: debt recovery up to £100,000, and defending employment tribunal claims for unfair or wrongful dismissal.

For those services, firms must publish prices and details of the service, including the key stages and likely timescales, and what is and is not included in the price. The SRA says this must be in a prominent place on the website and easy to find. Firms must also display their SRA number and the SRA's digital badge, and publish their complaints procedure.

This is a summary to help you plan a website, not legal advice. The SRA's guidance and templates are the authority, and if you are regulated by someone else, such as CILEx Regulation or the Council for Licensed Conveyancers, check their rules.

What people look for when choosing a firm

  • Do you handle my kind of problem? A page for each practice area, written for the client, not for other lawyers.
  • What will it cost and how long will it take? The transparency pages answer this, which is why firms that publish clearly often convert better.
  • Who will deal with me? Team profiles with qualifications and experience. For the listed services the SRA also expects information about the people doing the work and their supervisors.
  • Can I trust you? The SRA badge, reviews and accreditations you hold.
  • How do I start? A clear enquiry route for each practice area, so a conveyancing enquiry does not sit in a family law inbox.

What we build for law firms

  • A page for each practice area, plus the transparency pages for the listed services, set out the way the SRA describes.
  • SRA number and digital badge, complaints procedure and regulatory information in the footer and where it is required.
  • Team profiles with qualifications and experience.
  • Enquiry forms routed by practice area.
  • Google Business Profile for each office (Scale).

Example: a high street firm offering conveyancing, wills and probate, and family law

Questions people ask

Does my law firm website have to show prices?

If you are SRA regulated and publish that you offer any of the listed services, such as residential conveyancing or uncontested probate, yes: the Transparency Rules require price and service information for those services. Check the SRA's guidance for the detail.

What must be on a solicitor's website?

For SRA-regulated firms: the SRA number and digital badge, the complaints procedure, and price and service information for any listed services you offer. Most firms also include practice area pages and team profiles.

How much does a law firm website cost?

Ours is £949 setup and £59 a month for most firms, or £1,950 and £129 a month for several offices or a large team, including hosting and edits.

Can you keep our fee information up to date?

Yes. Edits to existing pages, such as fee changes, are included in the monthly fee and done the next working day on Grow and Scale.
