Website redesign cost in the UK

An old website that no longer brings in work is a common reason to look at prices. The cost depends on whether you need a new look, a new structure or a complete rebuild, and on whether the old site has any Google rankings worth keeping.

Short answer

Published UK prices for a redesign: £1,500 to £3,000 for a visual refresh and £3,000 to £8,000 for a small business redesign (MB Web). Ecommerce redesigns run £10,000 to £40,000. B2B agency projects are higher still, typically £15,000 to £60,000 (SpotDev). Our packages rebuild a small business site from £449 setup and £39 a month, including moving your domain and redirecting old pages.

Refresh, redesign or start again?

A refresh is enough when

The site gets visits and enquiries, the structure works, and it just looks dated or does not work well on a phone.

Start again when

The site does not bring in enquiries, the wording does not say what you do, services have changed, or an old WordPress install has plugins nobody has updated in years.

Most small business sites that are not working have a writing and structure problem, not a design one. A new coat of paint on the same pages tends to get the same results.

Keeping rankings during a redesign

  1. List every page on the old site and which ones get visits from Google.
  2. Keep the domain. Your address should not change.
  3. Redirect every old page to the closest new page, so links and rankings carry across.
  4. Keep what works. If a page ranks, improve it rather than deleting it.
  5. Check after launch that forms send and old addresses land in the right place.

If the old site ranks for nothing beyond your business name, there is little to protect, and a redesign quote should not charge you heavily for a migration that is not really there.

What pushes a redesign quote up

  • More pages, especially if each needs rewriting.
  • Writing. Whito puts copywriting at £50 to £150 a page.
  • Moving platforms, for example from Wix or an old WordPress install.
  • Online shops, with products, payments and stock to move.
  • Integrations such as booking systems and CRMs.

How we handle a redesign

We keep your domain, rewrite the content rather than copying it over, redirect every old page to its new home, and keep the old site live until the new one is ready. If your current site ranks only for your business name, we tell you so and the move costs nothing extra.

Questions people ask

How much does a website redesign cost?

MB Web puts a visual refresh at £1,500 to £3,000 and a small business redesign at £3,000 to £8,000. Ours starts at £449 setup and £39 a month, including the move and redirects.

Will I lose my Google rankings if I redesign my website?

Not if you keep the domain and redirect every old page to the right new one. Rankings are lost when pages disappear or move without redirects.

How often should a website be redesigned?

There is no fixed schedule. Redesign when the site stops bringing in enquiries, no longer matches what you sell, or is hard to keep up to date.

Should I use a website redesign company or a freelancer?

A freelancer suits a straightforward refresh. A company suits a bigger site, a platform move or a shop. Either way, ask how they will protect your existing rankings.
