Squarespace pricing in the UK

Squarespace has four plans and no free one. Here is what each costs in pounds, what the cheaper plans leave out, and the costs that arrive after the first year.

Short answer

Squarespace costs £12 to £79 a month on annual billing, or £16 to £89 paid monthly, for its four plans: Basic, Core, Plus and Advanced. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. Most small businesses that take payments need Core, at £17 a month on annual billing (£204 a year).

Which plan a business needs

  • Basic suits a simple site. It allows two contributors, charges a 2% transaction fee on online store sales, and does not include code injection, which you need to add things like the Meta Pixel or some live chat tools.
  • Core removes the 2% store fee, allows unlimited contributors and adds code injection, advanced analytics and a free Google Workspace account for the first year. It is the sensible plan for most businesses.
  • Plus and Advanced lower the card processing rates and add selling tools. They make sense once online sales are a real part of the business.

The costs on top of the plan

  • Your domain after year one. Annual plans include a free domain for the first year. It then renews at Squarespace's standard rate.
  • Payment fees. Card rates through Squarespace Payments start at 2.0% plus 25p on Basic and Core, falling to 1.5% plus 25p on Advanced.
  • Email. The Google Workspace account on Core and above is free for the first year only.
  • Extensions. Third-party extensions for things like shipping or tax often have their own fees.

What Squarespace costs over three years

On annual billing, three years of Basic is £432 and three years of Core is £612, before domain renewals and payment fees. That is the cheapest way to have a good-looking site, as long as you build and maintain it yourself. Compare it with the other routes in what a website costs in the UK.

When to pay someone instead

Squarespace makes the design part easy. It does not write your pages, set up your Google Business Profile or work out which services need their own page to be found. If those are the parts you would rather hand over, our packages include them, with hosting and edits, from £449 setup and £39 a month.
